Overview
Tortoise is a French company specializing in materials characterization. Since it was founded seven years ago, the company has been deploying innovative techniques to enhance the reliability and durability of materials in all major industrial sectors, from aeronautics and nuclear power to luxury goods and renewable energies.
The fruit of 40 years of academic research, its technology extracts a wealth of new information from the fracture surface of a broken material, such as its mechanical strength or the conditions under which it broke. This enables us to carry out highly detailed mechanical autopsies which not only determine the causes of mechanical damage, but also provide powerful means of preventing it.
The team
The company was founded by Laurent Ponson, research fellow at the Institut Jean le Rond d’Alembert (CNRS/Sorbonne University). Comprising some fifteen members, most of whom are young PhDs from diverse scientific and cultural backgrounds, Tortoise cultivates the values of science, research and innovation in the service of a sustainable industry that respects our environment.
