Sorbonne University joins forces with Udice to support the “Stand up for Science” initiative
Echoing the call from the French Academy of Sciences, and in support of the Stand Up For Science France initiative, Sorbonne University has joined forces with the Udice alliance to support the movement.
Indispensable for understanding the world, science is based on the fundamental principles of freedom, integrity and cooperation.
To jeopardize these principles is to undermine our collective ability to respond to the major challenges of our time!
The entire French scientific community is invited to confront and denounce the threats to science and scientific research in the United States.
Official motion from the board on March 11, in support of “Stand up for science"
Budget cuts, political pressure, deletion of data, censorship of research topics, questioning of fundamental principles - research is currently under attack from a wide range of harmful forces, particularly in the United States, but more widely on an international scale.
Mobilized on March 7, Sorbonne University continues to strongly support the “Stand up for science” movement and reaffirms its determination to defend free and creative science and the humanities, in the service of the common good.
Public commitment to knowledge is at the heart of its strategy, and its pillars are academic freedom, the methodical examination of facts, pluralist debate, and the pursuit of truth against all forms of obscurantism.
Faced with multiple negative external factors, it is now also up to the world of research to make itself heard and to organize itself to be heard; to share its knowledge, to work on new forms of mediation with target audiences: citizens—young people in particular—but also public and private decision-makers, at all levels: local, national and international.
