In the Press: Sorbonne alumna featured in EOS Magazine
Microbiologist and Sorbonne University alumna Sabine Matallana-Surget has been featured in international press.
Sorbonne University alumna Sabine Matallana-Surget has been working on identifying how microorganisms work to help clean up a mix of crude oil, Corexit and ultraviolet radiation. Her recent article in EOS magazine focuses on the development of real-world solutions.
In 2010, the Deepwater Horizon drilling disaster, the biggest oil spill in history in the Gulf of Mexico, was treated with close to 2 million gallons of Corexit to disperse the crude oil. But scientists have been hard at work since then to anticipate the next disaster using microbial communities to help with the cleanup.
