"Europe must make its voice heard on the contribution of scientific knowledge to our societies."
From September 7-9, 2023, The European Network of Research Integrity Offices met at Sorbonne University to conduct their annual congress.
Sorbonne University president Nathalie Drach-Temam spoke at the event, reinforcing ideas of European collaboration and influence, research integrity and open science.
"I am delighted and proud that the 2023 ENRIO Congress is meeting at Sorbonne University, the leading French university in terms of open access publication rates."
Drach-Temam acknowledged the current European context of geopolitical unrest, and called on all attendees and their communities to uphold and promote the culture of science and scientific integrity that has been developed in the region over the last ten years.
She also highlighted the importance of scientific and research integrity extending beyond specialists and institutions, becoming fulling integrated in society:
"As the cradle of humanism and democracy, Europe must make its voice heard on the contribution of scientific knowledge to our societies, and the requirements of integrity and ethics that researchers must meet. We need to think about open science in relation to questions of integrity, ethics and deontology. If we are to promote research with integrity and responsibility, it must be recognized as such by society: citizens, public authorities, decision-makers and the media."
Sorbonne University is proud to be producing science that is honest, open and responsible.
