Cybathlon 2022: Congratulations to Sorbonne University's Smart ArM Team!
Christophe Huchet, pilot of the Smart ArM team of the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics (ISIR) at Sorbonne University, won the upper limb prosthesis race during the first Cybathlon Challenge of 2022, broadcast live from Zurich.
On Thursday, May 19, the Smart ArM team participated in the first edition of the Cybathlon Challenge 2022, a sports competition for people with disabilities using assistive technology.
With a new, shorter format, this international competition gave teams and their pilots the opportunity to test their devices, demonstrate their achievements and evaluate their performances.
Five teams, five pilots, five prosthetic arms
Five teams competed to win the Cybathlon Challenge's upper limb prosthesis race: Smart ArM from France, e-OPRA and x-OPRA from Sweden, Karla Bionics from Indonesia and ARM2u from Spain.
The goal for each pilot: to perform a single task correctly and as quickly as possible. The competitors had to position eight everyday objects into their respective slots in a dedicated box. Each team was given two attempts.
After three thrilling minutes, Christophe Huchet, Smart ArM's pilot, won the competition, finishing only two seconds ahead of the e-OPRA team led by Magnus Niska.
