4EU+ Rectors' Seminar: a strategic step towards the European university of tomorrow

On April 4, 2025, the University of Warsaw hosted the Alliance 4EU+ Rectors' Seminar, bringing together the governance teams of member universities around the theme: “4EU+ Leading the Way: Shaping the Future of a Transnational European University in a Changing Global Landscape."

The event marked the opening act of the Alliance's recently adopted 2025-2035 strategy.

In the face of a changing geopolitical and academic backdrop, the discussions highlighted the first lines of a reinforced action plan for research and training. Among the priorities announced were:

  • The creation of a transnational program for young PhD candidates from partner institutions.
  • Emphasis on fundamental skills: critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, conflict resolution.

By questioning the future role of European universities, their ability to restore democratic trust, and to capitalize on digital and geopolitical transitions, this seminar laid the foundations for a renewed strategic positioning for 4EU+.

The 4EU+ Alliance thus intends to assert its driving role in the construction of an open, agile and meaningful European higher education and research area.

Sorbonne University was well represented across all discussion panels: many thanks to Guillaume Fiquet, Sabine Bottin-Rousseau, Nelly Quemener, Brigitte Seroussi, Ferdinand Dhombres and Andrea Pinna.
