To help supervisors perform their duties, for more than 15 years now, the Doctoral College has been offering them support in the form of small workshops which allow them to understand the current issues of doctoral study and the evolution of the supervisor's role. See the course catalogue.

To respond to particular situations, the head of the Sorbonne University may issue an authorisation to carry out the functions of thesis director without HDR.

The complete file must be sent to the director of the doctoral school in question. The director of the doctoral school gives an opinion and forwards the file to the director of the Doctoral College. As applicable, the authorisation shall be formalised by a document signed by the Director of the Doctoral College, by delegation from the head of the establishment, sent to the person in question, with a copy to the Director of the research unit and the Director of the doctoral school that they are attached to.
