Caroline Besse
The origin of colors.
A meeting of art and science
Caroline Besse initiated a research project on the color of minerals in residence at ISTeP, in partnership with Erwan Martin. The work of field selection, followed by grinding and finally creation naturally led this artist and researcher to propose the establishment of a restitution phase within the mineral collection. This restitution is designed as an exhibition combining subtle and dreamlike art with science. It allows us to place and enrich the residency in an interdisciplinary perspective combining geology with physics, chemistry, human sciences and medicine through composition, interactions and the perception of colors by the human eye.
Project partners
The restitution project involves several researchers from the institutes and laboratories of Sorbonne University as well as the Mines Paris Tech mineralogy museum. It is supported by the science, culture and society relations department, the Ecce Terra Universe Sciences Observatory, the Heritage Observatory of the Sorbonne University Alliance, the Institute of Mineralogy, Materials Physics and cosmochemistry and the Institute of Materials, the Institute of Earth Sciences of Paris, the UFR of Physics, as well as the A.MI.S of the mineral collection of Sorbonne University and the Italian editions Comics & Science.
