French as a foreign language (FLE) certifications

The Office of French Language Examinations for Foreign Students (Service des Examens de Langue Française réservés aux Étudiants Étrangers – SELFEE) at Sorbonne University designs pioneering French language and civilisation certifications intented for an international audience. It offers two types of certifications in French as a Foreign Language: SELFEE-Sorbonne certifications and DELF-DALF.

Sorbonne University certifications

In compliance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the diplomas delivered by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Sorbonne University are divided into five proficiency levels: threshold (B1), independent user (B2), advanced (C1), mastery (C2), and maestria (C3). The diplomas in the three most advanced levels (C1, C2 and C3) include a literature course that allows candidates to be better prepared for French academic studies.

Each year, over 5,000 students from more than 49 countries turn to our administrative and teaching teams to obtain their certificates. 10 sessions are organised yearly, in France and abroad.
 
The Sorbonne University certifications are open to all and lay emphasis on French academic practices.
 
There are 5 Sorbonne University certifications :

  • Language certifications with an introduction to literature
    • Sorbonne B1 - Intermediate certificate of French language
    • Sorbonne B2 - Practical certificate of French language
       
  • Certifications in French language, literature and civilisation
    • Sorbonne C1 - Practical certificate of French language
    • Sorbonne C2 - Diploma in French language and literature
    • Sorbonne C3 - Higher Diploma of French studies

DELF-DALF certifications

The Office of French language examinations for foreign students (SELFEE) examination centre offers two certification levels : B2 DELF and C1 DALF.

The DELF (Diploma of French language studies) and the DALF (Diploma of advanced French language studies) are official diplomas issued by the French Ministry of National Education, aiming to certifying the French language skills of foreign candidates. They are valid for life and recognised internationally.

The B2 DELF certification validates an independent level and the C1 DALF certification an advanced level.

The certification exams are open to adults and youths from the age of 16. Please be aware however that candidates holding French citizenship cannot take these examinations, except for:

  • French citizens originally from a non-French-speaking country
  • French citizens who do not hold any degree from the French public system of secondary or higher education
