The laboratory PLAS @ PAR (UPMC/CNRS) and the Pompidou Center join forces to make plasma an exceptional art object. This unprecedented collaboration between physicists and artists is the subject of a rich program throughout the year. Through this program, the general public will be able to discover plasma, the fourth state of matter, representing 99% of our visible universe, displayed and analyzed in different forms. Schoolchildren, students, teachers and future teachers, as well as researchers and artists, will find each of the mediation actions an adapted course to better understand and appreciate the multiple interactions between the arts and plasmas.
ACT 1 / Mixed Class in ARTS AND PLASMA SCIENCE
School-aged Audiences - School Year 2017 – 2018
Visit the Observatoire de Paris, the SIMPA installation (source of multicharged ions) at the NanoSciences Institute of Paris, and collections of modern art at the Pompidou Center. With this cross-disciplinary journey, from Matisse to Delaunay and Dan Flavin, students explore the notions of visible and invisible as well as the interactions between light, color and matter.
ACT 2 / WORKSHOPS TEACHING AND TRANSMISSION
Teachers and teacher trainees from ESPE (Graduate School of Teaching and Education) in the visual arts and physical-chemistry: January - February 2018 Visit the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art at the Pompidou Center (1:30) and workshops (2h): creation of digital images, spectroscopy around "light-matter" notions, discovery of plasma sound waves.
After visiting the collections of the Pompidou Center's National Museum of Modern Art, teachers and trainee teachers examine the relationship between arts and sciences: What are there common processes? How can plasma, the 4th state of matter, be both scientific and artistic? In parallel, a media-teaching dossier "Arts and Plasma Physics" will be developed and made available to the French teaching community.
ACT 3 / MICRO-RESIDENCE ARTISTS & SCIENTISTS
General public - February 2018
Working in artist-scientist/artist-engineer pairs, visits to the facilities of the Nançay radio astronomy station, exchanges and co-construction of a transversal reflection presented during the forum at the Pompidou Center.
The artists will be welcomed at the radio astronomy station of Nançay by astrophysicists and engineers who will have them discover the facilities of the site and the museum space of the Pole of Stars. This meeting between researchers, engineers and artists will be an opportunity to reflect on the process of co-creation and collaboration between arts and sciences and transmission issues.
ACT 4 / WORKSHOP AT THE HEART OF IONIZED MATTER
Students in Science and Humanities - March 2018
A collaborative workshop, a projection of the audiovisual work of the collective Danny Rose "Journey to the heart of the 4th state of the art" at the Sorbonne University Clignancourt campus and the Pierre and Marie Curie campus (at Jussieu).
Development of a collective work at the crossroads of the arts and sciences of plasmas and immersion in the process of creation. From science to art, there is only one step! This bridge between the disciplines will be enriched by the students on different sites thanks to a dedicated, participative and innovative workshop conceived in partnership with the collective of artists Danny Rose. See, hear, dream: the adventure continues in the heart of the 4th state of matter with an immersive audiovisual and synaesthetic experience at the heart of plasmas. From the infinitely small to the infinitely large, from the heart of matter to the confines of the cosmos, Danny Rose proposes a journey that will bring to the spectators the 4th state of matter from the inside.
ACT 5 / FORUM ARTS AND PLASMA SCIENCE: AN EXPERIMENT OF IONIZED MATTER
General public - April 7 and 8, 2018
Visit the collections of the National Museum of Modern Art of the Pompidou Center, meetings, conferences and debates, projection of the audiovisual work of the collective Danny Rose "Journey to the heart of the 4th state of matter", experimental workshop, concert of stars music and culinary performance around plasmas. Light on an experiment of ionized matter; Built and nurtured throughout the year, this mediation and reflection program will be open to the public at the Pompidou Center in April 2018. The program includes two days of fun, interactive and experimental events to get comfortable with the plasma through the prism of decompartmentalization, the multidisciplinary realities of creation being a laboratory of new forms of artistic-scientific research.
